WHY BUILD CHARACTER?

Character includes motivations that lead to actions!

Character is a primary ingredient for success. Good character builds other vital ingredients of Richmond such as relationships, skills, decisions, and opportunities. Bad character renders these same things useless or even detrimental.

Character unites. These qualities transcend political, economic, religious, gender, and cultural differences. For example, it is commonly understood that truthfulness is better than lying, compassion better than hate, patience better than anger, diligence better than laziness, etc. As various parts of our community focus on common character qualities, we reinforce each other’s efforts.

Character is achievable by everyone. No matter what other attributes or challenges he or she has, every person can build character. As character improves, relationships and accomplishments also improve.

Character shapes the future. We want Richmond to be a community where we work together to ensure a better future with strong families, safe homes and streets, successful schools, growing churches, productive businesses, and caring citizens. Let’s build Richmond’s reputation for good character!
